How to take care of your mesh integration

Getting a mesh integration or topper is the start of a brand-new hair journey. With the right aftercare routine, you’ll not only protect your natural hair but also make your integration last longer and look more flawless every day.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through the essential steps for mesh integration aftercare — from brushing and washing to styling, sleeping, and maintenance.

The Right Brushes Make All the Difference

Brushing is one of the most important parts of caring for your integration.

  • Use a flex wet brush for gentle detangling.

  • Use a paddle brush with mixed bristles (long and short) for smoothing and detangling at the same time.

Pro Tip: Always brush before washing — never when your hair is wet.

Washing & Conditioning

Your washing routine sets the foundation for healthy extensions and scalp.

  • Wait 48 hours before your first wash after installation.

  • Keep your head upright or tilted back — never flip it forward into a sink (this causes tangling).

  • Use sulfate-free, paraben-free, and silicone-free shampoos and conditioners.

  • Wash only 2–3 times per week.

  • Apply conditioner or masks only from mid-shaft to ends.

  • Deep condition once a week.

Pro Tip: A detachable shower head makes rinsing easier and ensures no residue is left behind.

Drying & Styling

How you dry your hair can make or break your integration.

  • Gently towel-dry with a microfiber towel — press, don’t rub.

  • Use a blow dryer with a nozzle for controlled airflow.

  • Always apply a heat protectant before styling.

  • Avoid tight ponytails or hairstyles that pull on the topper.

Coloring & Maintenance

  • Never attempt to color your topper at home — always go to a professional stylist.

  • Schedule maintenance every 5–8 weeks to adjust, tighten, and check the health of your natural hair underneath.

Night Care

Protect your integration while you sleep:

  • Sleep on a silk pillowcase to reduce friction.

  • Braid or tie your hair loosely in a low ponytail before bed.

What to Avoid

  • Don’t wash too often — over-cleansing can dry out your hair.

  • Don’t brush when wet.

  • Don’t use rough towels or rub your hair.

  • Don’t try to fix severe tangling or matting yourself — see your stylist.
